MG is set to enter this year’s BTCC season with cars based on its MG6 fastback.

The reborn car firm is entering the season’s first race at Brands Hatch on April 1st in a car built by BTCC legends Triple Eight Race Engineering. Triple Eight has been responsible for over 100 BTCC wins.

Dubbed MG KX Momentum Racing, the team will field two cars. One driven by Fifth Gear presenter and former-Chevrolet team driver Jason Plato, the other driven by BTCC rising star Andy Neate.

The suffixes after ‘MG’ in the team’s name relates to its sponsors – Tesco Fuels’ Momentum 99 ultra fuel and KX energy drink.

Plato commented: "It's really exciting to be involved in a brand-new all-British team and it's just brilliant that the iconic name of MG will be back on the track."

Alan Gow, BTCC series director and former touring car racer, said: “This high-profile return to the forefront of competition in the BTCC is also certain to prove highly effective in terms of marketing for MG and all of its partners, as well as delivering some great results for them on the track."
